G-Eazy - Marilyn ft. Dominique LeJeune

G-Eazy dropped this track on his site today. A melancholy break-up song featuring Dominique LeJeune's soft voice. He released an album titled The Endless Summer back in August. It's a solid album, check it out if you missed it. The whole thing is available for download by naming your price on G-Eazy's site http://music.g-eazy.com/album/the-endless-summer. I posted about G-Eazy a while ago. Last time about "Dear Ms. Rose" (which is still one of my favorite songs) and "Waspy", featured on The Endless Summer.

PNAU - Unite Us

Childish Gambino - Freaks and Geeks (Star Slinger Remix)

Really cool remix by Star Slinger. He came on the scene in 2010 after releasing a beat tape titled "Volume 1" and has had some explosive success since then. He got some attention from Diplo and various features in the press (notably NME included him on their Top 50 Bands of 2011). Despite this much hype he's still kind of a mysterious figure and I don't think too many people know of his music. Aside from the tracks posted here, check out Mornin', Rollerskaters, and Elizabeth Fraser. All great tracks. I love this dude's sound.

Bon Iver at AIR Studios (4AD/Jagjaguwar Session)

It's such an obvious statement to make on a music blog, but I really appreciate artists who sound the same live as they do recorded. It just seems like that's so rare these days. And that's so unfortunate. We hold other industries to such high standards of truth and transparency that doesn't seem to be expected from musicians. That's not to say that I don't love and listen to artists that I KNOW don't have the natural talent that you hear listening to their albums. For example, I was completely disillusioned by Lana Del Ray's SNL appearance, but it hasn't stopped me from listening to Video Games or Blue Jeans. It's just that when it happens, I feel a bit cheated. There's just not enough honesty in music anymore, and that's the truth. So when I catch a video like this one of Bon Iver, I can't help but be touched. I feel respected as a music lover that I haven't been lied to, and for that reason I respect the artist all the more. Bon Iver's music is beautiful, it has substance and it's honest. And these shouldn't be unique characteristics of music. I've been fortunate enough to see some amazing live shows (The Rolling Stones, The Roots, Ellie Goulding, La Roux, LCD Soundsystem, The Tallest Man on Earth, to name a few) and through those experiences I can say that if a musician isn't good live, they're not a good musician. Isn't that the simplest idea?

Chi Duly - Balloons of Haus

Oregon's own Chi Duly has produced another great mix tape. This time he's focused his attention on The Weeknd. Chi Duly has taken the après-party sound characteristic of the Canadian born artist and transformed it to something to bob your head to. It's funny that this post follows the Shlohmo remix of "Crew Love" because Chi Duly and Shlohmo took such different approaches to mixing The Weekend. Shlohmo's version is slower and darker than the original, while Chi Duly's tracks are upbeat and rhythmic. Chi Duly explains - "The concept was born of my interest in bringing The Weeknd's vibe to a DJ set." And I'd say he's done so very effectively. My personal favorites are The Party, Glass Table Girls, enotS gnilloR and The Morning, but all of Balloons of Haus is amazing! In fact, The Weeknd himself gave Chi Duly a twitter shout-out (check pic below). Seriously great work Chris! Hope you're taking the East coast by storm :)
All of the music is available to download on Chi Duly's site http://www.chiduly.com/ (which by the way looks amazing these days).

Delilah - Love You So

This track by British artist Delilah (aka Paloma Stoecker), reminds me of that Nina Sky and CREEP track - "You".

Dunson - Count On It

This track's been popping up on a few blogs lately. It's a pretty catchy hip-hop beat. Don't know anything about Dunson, but I figured I'd share something upbeat going into the weekend.

Crew Love (Shlohmo Remix) - Drake ft. The Weeknd

If The Weekend wasn't smooth enough for ya, Shlohmo slows it down and makes the track just that much darker.

(Video) Bad Girls - M.I.A.

Do you guys remember a couple of years ago the media outrage that followed a video posted on YouTube showing "Saudi Arabian car skating"? It was awesome. Seriously, watch the video HERE if you don't remember. Well, M.I.A. adopted the concept to her new video for "Bad Girls"....so great.

Pretty Lights at Bonnaroo 2011

You may have heard the song, but I personally hadn't seen this video. It's from last year's Pretty Lights performance at Bonnaroo. This reminds me so much of the scene at Sasquatch, he'll be performing there this year :) As always, you can download any of Pretty Lights music by going to the site http://prettylightsmusic.com/

James Blake - The Wilhelm Scream (LIVE)

Twice now I've come across James Blake, and been impressed with his unique voice....and then twice I have let his name go by the wayside. The first time was when I heard "The Wilhelm Scream" at the ending credits of an Entourage episode and then when I stumbled upon "Limit to Your Love" on a TCH Weekend Playlist. This third time, it's a live rendition of "The Wilhelm Scream" at SXSW 2011. And I'm making sure to make a note of it this time by sharing it with you guys. It's remarkable the sound he has....LIVE no less. Towards the end the percussion gets to be a bit too much, but this video does a great job of spotlighting his voice.

Amadou & Mariam samplex3

It's cool to see how different artists take samples of songs and turn them into something uniquely their own. Below are tracks by Nas & Damien Marley, Theophilus London and Miike Snow that use "Sabali" by Amadou & Mariam (even tho the Miike Snow track is technically a remix it gets a spot on the list).
