The Noisettes

I am like a year late on the release of this album, but no worries it's never too late for good music. The Noisettes are an indie rock band out of London (have you noticed how the British love to name themselves "The [insert name]s"....The Buzzcocks, The Kooks, The Beatles hmmm). Anyway, their sound is a very catchy, 60s throwback rock. Sooper dope video featuring Shingai Shoniwa. The download link is below, along with my favorite from The Noisettes - Never Forget You.

A-Track - Ray Ban Vision ft. Cyhi Da Prynce

I got SUPER vision. I saw A-track at Sasquatch last spring and it was love in the dance test. Unfortunately, I haven't had much luck finding anything I'm crazy about since then (I have to say their remix of Heart It Races by Dr. Dog ruins the original). Ray Ban Vision ft. Cyhi Da Prynce caught my attention tho. Fun song with a sound similar to what I remember from the festival. As for the sunglasses, if you've been following this blog you'll know this isn't my first post about Supers. This particular pair was a Super and Highsnobiety collab. I gotta say GREAT end result! The top is leather, which i thought was a cool touch. Super cool 70s throwback.

I'm In the HOUUUSSSSEEEE

"Have no fear, Religion is here!" lol I'm quoting their Myspace profile. Kinda lame yes, but this remix is not. I just realized how long it's been since my last post, sorry about that. I guess since school has started back up I've been caught up with classes and seeing everyone after summer. But anyway, today I'm posting a Steve Aoki remix. No not a song remixed by Steve, but a Steve song remixed by Religion. They're an LA based duo whose members are Kevin Stewart and Nicholas Dew. They've been around since 2008, but this is the first time I'm hearing them. Hope you like!

Getting folky

Lately I have gotten into what I would call "folky" sounding music. Artists like Mumford & Sons, Edward Sharpe, The Tallest Man on Earth and Jenny Wilson have been frequent plays on my ipod, but none have made it to this blog. I'm posting this late, but as it is a new discovery for myself I wanted to share with you too.

Deadmau5 + Wolfgang

Deadmau5 has been invading my head for the last several months. And recently Wolfgang Gartner has joined in on the auditory attack. Now the two have collaborated on this track....and my eardrums hear no reprieve in sight. I'm loving it. Enjoy this gem :)

ENTER THE VOID

Enter the Void is the latest release of French film director Gaspar Noe, he calls it a "psychedelic melodrama". The film is about an American drug dealer named Oscar who's killed, but stays on Earth as a spirit to watch over his younger sister. I haven't heard anything about this movie and after a little researching it was clear why - the movie hasn't been released in the US. It's been floating around the international film circuit for over a year and got mixed reviews due to its graphic nature. But needless to say it looks visually incredible and I hope to see it soon. What Trinity Films had to say about the movie will be a better explanation...

"ENTER THE VOID is the highly anticipated new film from Gaspar Noé (I STAND ALONE, IRREVERSIBLE), the former enfant terrible of French Cinema. A filmmaker of a singular passion and cinematic vision that continues to challenge us, Noé is one of the most exciting directors working today. The provocative director’s latest work is a visually arresting and audacious ‘psychedelic melodrama’ of familial ties, inner consciousness and the circle of life played out against the neon-soaked backdrop of Tokyo’s nightscape of strip bars, clubs, and seedy hangouts, all lit up like a pinball machine."

West Coast love

YES! A West Coast electro producer. I feel like that's such a rare occurrence. Most everyone is from Europe, Australia or New York. I'm no hater, but it's nice to post about someone from your region (Wolfgang Gartner is from California). GO Wolfgang!

MGMT - Congratulations

This is such a strange video. The creature is so grotesque, but at the same time so sad looking it's hard not to sympathize. And as much as I love color, I love the monochrome.

I love Kanye West.

I'm late on seeing this video, but I think it's great and worth a post. I have always been a fan of Kanye West, so I'm really excited for the next album. I spotted this video on Vinyl and Vodka, with the following caption:

"I love that this is actually considered as more of a piece of art than just of him lip syncing and showing off all of his money, fame, and power (which I thought it would be about)."

In my opinion, this is the biggest glorifying of himself Kanye has ever done. The video looks like a Baroque church ceiling with Kanye in the center looking like Jesus. The lyrics themselves are pretty bold. So for someone to say this is more than his usual pretentious behavior is funny. This is totally Kanye West. Yeah he over-inflates himself, but how many mainstream rappers today don't? I love that he used this for the visuals. As much as I love the new effects in music videos (LED lights, Gaga's extravagance, etc.), this is a cool direction to take. I'm excited to see what else he's going to release.

DyMeADuZiN

This morning I randomly came upon this Brooklyn artist who really impressed me. I was surprised that at sixteen years old DyMe-A-DuZiN sounds so mature, until I read his bio and found out he started performing at 9 years old. It's cool to see people so young yet so aware of their identity. DyMe-A-DuZiN has also released a mixtape called = x Shut Up N Listen, where I heard the track Chronic Masturbation haha. Turns out this kid also has a sense of humor.

Majority Rules

The other day I went to the movies and was pretty disappointed when my vote for Dinner with Schmucks was overruled for Step Up 3D. Dance flick+3D+non-actors attempting to act= low expectations. But Step Up proved to be MUCH better than I expected! Granted the acting wasn't very good, but it was a movie about dancing and it delivered on that account. The people in this movie are incredibly talented, and I especially appreciated the use of LED lights. This particular scene was a favorite.

Sia vs. Mike Posner

OK, so I know this has already made number one on Hypem but I really wanted to post this track. I've been a Posner fan since i heard him on Big Sean's mixtape, and Sia's gentle voice is so beautiful. Of course I was excited about this song! Also, look for Mike Posner's new album 31 Minutes to Takeoff dropping August 10th.

I Blame Coco - Selfmachine

I guess I'm a bit late on this artist, but that doesn't mean she's not worthy of a post. I Blame Coco, real name Coco Summer, is Stings daughter. Though this isn't exactly a selling factor for me, I have to say the musical gene has been passed on to this girl.

WWF x Ben Lee- Song for the Divine Mother of the Universe

"...but it's hard to stay mad, when there's so much beauty in the world. Sometimes I feel like I'm seeing it all at once, and it's too much, my heart fills up like a balloon that's about to burst... And then I remember to relax, and stop trying to hold on to it, and then it flows through me like rain and I can't feel anything but gratitude for every single moment of my stupid little life... You have no idea what I'm talking about, I'm sure. But don't worry... you will someday." - American Beauty

Ori Toor

After watching the Animal Collective video I found out about Ori Toor (he directed the Lion In a Coma). This guy makes some great art and looking at his drawings kind of reveals how his mind works. Check out his website for more of his work Ori Toor (The Devil edition is one to look into).

For some reason the second drawing made me think of Sasquatch. I think it's the fact that the people in it look so relaxed and the colors kind of remind me of the scene at the Gorge. Whatever it was it made me want to post this video of Deadmau5 from the festival. Joel Zimmerman is seriously incredible!

First post of the summer!

I've been so lame with posting, but I'm gonna make a serious effort to post as often as I can. There's been so much exciting new music out (The Roots How I Got Over, the Nas and Damien Marley collab to name a few) it gives me more material and more motivation. So the first post of the summer is dedicated to two of my long time favorites - Cudder and Kanyeezy. I haven't done much research on where this came from or what's to come from these guys, but once I do I'll let you know. For the time being, here's the track...

Land Art Generator Initiative

This map shows the surface area needed to power the world if we used solar power. Its part of the Land Art Generator Initiative, which brings together artists, architects and engineers to create land art instillations that generate clean energy. The figures are based on 2008 global power usage. I can't believe how little space is required! The largest square in the northern part of Africa, would be able to generate enough power to support Europe and North Africa together. Why are we not doing this??

You can click on the image to enlarge it, or view the same map with a legend here. For more info you can visit LAGI's website - http://www.landartgenerator.org/index.html

Big Z Remixes

I'm not really sure who Big Z is but he did these great remixes of a few rap songs. They don't sound too much like the originals, which is refreshing for a remix, however they're still great hip hop tracks. Here's a couple favorites from the album. Kanye with Tupac and Jay-Z with B.I.G. lol everyone got on this...except Wayne, but he's supposed to be in jail right?
